So, you want to be a writer...Having just started my writing career I don’t want to sound condescending, but I believe there are some points I need to share. I have tried quite a few jobs in my life and writing is by far the most difficult one. It is also by far the most rewarding, although definitely not in the financial sense at first.

9 steps in your writing careerWith nearly two and a half years into my writing career, I needed some reference point to put my glorious achievements and wretched failures into perspective. Thus, I pondered upon the inevitable steps a successful novelist has to make in a writing career and because I am prone to look at life as if it were a role-playing game, here is my take at a wordsmith’s leveling system.

9 Good Ideas (to follow) and 9 Bad Ideas (to stay away from)Starting a career in writing is a great idea, but also a deceptively difficult one to execute. Given today’s free tools, anyone can write and, more importantly, anyone can publish. This creates a fierce competition between writers and limits the possibilities of success for all but the very best. Thus, I wish to share my thoughts on the first steps each writer takes and hopefully spare you a few days, weeks or maybe even months of frustration. The following advice is aimed to help the very beginners. If you are a seasoned wordsmith you will probably find it trivial, but who knows… maybe you should read it just in case.
